Finster portrayed his practice based upon "visions" spoken through God. As the story goes, his revelation to "paint sacred art" occurred while coating his bike using white enamel paint. A face appeared to him in the process of dipping his finger in the paint bucket revealing a spiritual-like face. This occurrence led him to commit his life to the teachings of God through art. From that moment forward, Howard Finster created his Paradise Garden alongside many forms of painting & architectural play. The garden acted as a way to spread the biblical teachings of religion to Finster's community and the world alike.
